Open role
Founding Frontend Engineer
The mission
Awasi is Slack-native. Alerts, approvals, and commands land in a DM, and a founder should be able to understand and act on each one in a few seconds. Behind that sits a web dashboard for the deeper view and a public site that has to earn trust on its own.
- You will be the first engineer focused on those surfaces, working directly with the founders and with customers to make a complex product feel simple.
What you will do
- Own the Slack experienceDesign and build the Block Kit messages, modals, and slash-command flows that deliver alerts and approvals. Every message has to say exactly what happened, who it affects, and what to do, and be right on a phone.
- Build the dashboardShip the web app in Next.js and TypeScript: the access graph, the event feed, findings, policies, and connector setup. Fast, dense, and legible.
- Make the graph readableTurn thousands of people, apps, agents, and grants into visualisations someone can actually use to answer "who can reach our customer data?".
- Set the design systemEstablish the components, tokens, and patterns the rest of the team builds with, across Slack, web, and the marketing site, so everything reads as one product.
- Care for the siteOwn awasi.ai: the pages, the performance, the details. It is often the first thing a customer sees.
- Close the loop with customersWatch people use what you built, in Slack and in the dashboard, and fix what confuses them the same week.
What we are looking for
- Deep frontend craft5+ years building production web apps. Expert in React and TypeScript, fluent in Next.js, and opinionated about state, data fetching, and rendering trade-offs.
- Design sensibilityYou can take a rough sketch to a finished, polished screen without a designer in the loop, and you notice a 1px misalignment before anyone else does.
- Comfort with data-heavy UIYou have built tables, timelines, or graphs over large datasets and kept them fast and understandable.
- Full-stack reachYou are happy writing the API route, the migration, or the Slack handler when that is what it takes to ship the feature.
- Accessibility and performance as defaultsKeyboard navigation, reduced motion, and Core Web Vitals are part of done, not a follow-up.
Bonus points
- You have shipped a Slack app or built with Block Kit.
- Experience with graph or network visualisation (D3, force layouts, or similar).
- You have worked on a security, identity, or developer-tools product.
Who will thrive here
- The finisherYou sweat the last 10%: empty states, error copy, loading, and the mobile view.
- The plain-English advocateYou push back on jargon in the UI and rewrite it until a founder who has never done security gets it on the first read.
- The builder-designerYou would rather own the whole surface than hand off a spec, and you thrive when the brief is a sentence and the deadline is this week.
